I had read about the PCM update somewhere - there was also talk about it improving fuel consumption. I think it may well be worth a shot if things don't improve. Interestingly, if I put the car in neutral and rev it at around the 1500rpm range, it runs perfectly, no judder, no fluctuating revs, no rough running at all.
Think the ECU measures the voltage when the EGR opens and closes and knows its not working. If I unplug the EGR it gives a fault code for high voltage. (And runs quite poorly) but the p1412 frozen EGR code doesn't reappear. Yeah that's right, blanking it won't help if the electronic part is faulty.

Hi, I'll try and keep this short :-) My Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi Mk2 keeps going in to limp home mode but showing no errors and appears to be OK after turning off and on the engine - but under load (e.g. up a hill) will go back in to limp home mode and kick out a cloud of smoke.
